Board President Thomas Kinst and Greg Gillette have filed nominating petitions and will seek new three-year terms on the Hillsborough Township Board of Education.
The deadline to file petitions to gain a spot on the Nov. 8 ballot is 4 p.m. Monday, July 25. Petitions should be delivered to the county clerk at 20 Grove St., Somerville.
A third incumbent facing re-election is Debashis “Dev” Dutta, who said Wednesday he was still unsure about running.
Mr. Kinst, first elected in 2010, has been president of the board since 2012. Mr. Gillette, chairman of the operations committee, has been on the board for eight years and will seek his fourth term.
Mr. Dutta, who is in the final year of his first three-year term, is a member of the Education Committee.
The three comprise the board’s negotiation committee, which is in the midst of bargaining with the 1,000-member Hillsborough Education Association of teachers, instructional and other aides, secretaries, custodians and maintenance workers.
Negotiations have deadlocked and the first session with an appointed mediator was held last week. HEA members rallied outside the school board offices to show their support for a contract.
A candidate must gather at least 10 signatures on a petition. A person must be a citizen, a registered voter, at least 18 years old, and live in the township for at least one year before the November election.
