NEW BRUNSWICK/PISCATAWAY – Fourteen educators from across New Jersey participated in an intensive professional development course on the history of the Holocaust at Rutgers.
Now in its fourth year, this free mini-course offered through the Master Teacher Institute in Holocaust Education (MTI) provides a rare opportunity for teachers to study Holocaust history in an intensive and comprehensive way during their summer break.
Participants in the course were primarily middle and high school teachers from public schools around the state. Sponsored by the Herbert and Leonard Littman Families Holocaust Resource Center, the course was held at the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life, 12 College Ave., New Brunswick.
The course included university style lectures, film discussions, resource material and recorded testimonies, and pedagogical sessions on classroom application. Participants receive numerous benefits from the MTI program, including professional development hours, help in curriculum development from experts in Holocaust pedagogy, access to a supportive network of teachers, and connection to the Shoah Visual History Archive.
