NEW BRUNSWICK – An author from Monmouth Junction will be featured during the 2016 Deadly Ink Mystery Writing Conference.
Guests who register for the event Aug. 5-7 at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick will get to meet with two dozen authors who will share their expertise by holding writing workshops, presentations and discussion panels, according to a statement prepared by Eileen F. Watkins.
A gala will also be held on the evening of Aug. 6, when the David G. Sasher, Sr. Award will be presented for Best Mystery of 2015.
Among the authors scheduled to attend is author Jeff Markowitz from Monmouth Junction.
Markowitz published his first suspense novel,”Who is Killing Doah’s Deer?” in 2004. The novel introduced readers to Cassie O’Malley, a tabloid writer and amateur sleuth who solves mysteries within the legendary Pine Barrens.
“I like to tell stories that not only reflect small town New Jersey, but also stories about a different New Jersey for readers who are not familiar with the state,” Markowitz said in an interview. “The stories that I write don’t necessarily focus on crime solving, but it also shows how a death or the discovery of someone’s death has an effect on the living.”
Two more novels in the Cassie O’Malley series were released soon after: “A Minor Case of Murder” in 2006 and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Murder” in 2009, according to the author’s official website. His most recent novel, “Death and White Diamonds,” was released in 2015.
Markowitz is no stranger to attending writing conferences, as he has been attending them for the past decade.
“These conferences are a great opportunity for other authors to personally connect with readers who want to ask questions or would like to give their opinions on writing and the suspense genre,” Markowitz said. “It’s a wonderful experience.”
