Parker at Monroe, a long-term-care living community for the aged in Monroe Township, was recently honored with a 2016 New Good Neighbor Award from the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) and New Jersey Business magazine.
Parker at Monroe, which opened in late 2014 and employs 200 health-care workers, features living spaces and programs designed to promote independence, dignity and a sense of community. The elderly residents receive personalized nursing care in a home-like environment instead of the institutional setting that characterizes some nursing homes.
At Parker at Monroe, there are six “small homes” connected to a large community center. Sixteen residents with similar health-care needs live in each of the small homes, which offer private or semi-private bedroom suites and specially designed bathrooms to support mobility. The homes have a common living room, with an oversized fireplace, a kitchen, dining room and outdoor gardens to provide a family-style atmosphere for socializing.
The project was designed by Spiezle Architectural Group, of Trenton, and the primary builder was Irwin & Leighton Commercial Builders, of Trenton.
Monroe Mayor Gerald Tamburro nominated Parker at Monroe for the New Good Neighbor Award.
