JAMESBURG – Select students in the Jamesburg school district are enhancing their grade level reading skills over the summer.
“Research tells us that early intervention can make a lifetime of difference by helping students to succeed in school,” said Gloria Aftanski, president of United Way of Central Jersey. “By focusing investments in ways that make the most difference, United Way works to create opportunities for a better life for people living in Central Jersey who are needy or at risk.”
JFK Elementary School Principal Pamela Hernandez added that “these students will be provided with best practices in education that focus on skill maintenance and enrichment in order to avoid the summer slide. The dedicated teachers who work the Summer Sprouts program will ensure that the students are engaged in meaningful cross-curricular activities in which the students themselves become responsible for their learning. Benchmark assessments are administered at the end of the school year and then again in early September to measure the effectiveness of the Summer Sprouts program.”
The Summer Sprouts program is sponsored by UPS and the United Way of Central Jersey.
