MANALAPAN – Police investigated multiple reports of the theft of items from motor vehicles during the weekend of July 23-24.
On July 23 at 10:36 a.m., officers responded to a home on Turtle Hollow Drive. The resident said that sometime during the overnight hours of July 22-23, unknown individuals stole three computers and a cell phone from an unlocked rented van that was parked in the driveway.
On July 24 at 1:20 a.m., officers responded to the area of Heron Court in reference to two men who were attempting to burglarize parked vehicles. The subjects were described only as possibly one white male and one black male, one of whom was carrying a black backpack. The responding officers were told the men had been observed pulling the door handles of parked vehicles.
On July 24 at 11:27 a.m., a resident of Heron Court reported that his unlocked vehicle had been burglarized during the overnight hours while it was parked in the driveway. Items valued at $35 were removed from the vehicle.
On July 24 at 5:19 p.m., a resident of Heron Court reported that his unlocked vehicle had been burglarized during the overnight hours while it was parked in the driveway. A GPS unit and approximately $23 in cash were removed from the vehicle.
In other incidents reported by police:
• On July 20 at 5:12 p.m., a 24-year-old female resident of Manalapan told police she had been receiving threatening text messages from an unknown individual.
Police said this incident appears to be part of ongoing threatening text messages and phone calls during which victims are provided with fraudulent information and threatened if they do not send the caller money.
Police reminded residents to be wary of these types of calls and to contact them immediately in the event they are the victim of this type of incident.
• On July 21 at 8:20 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Tennent and Sandybrook roads. Police said a van ran off the road, struck a utility pole and overturned. The driver was identified as Anthony Nesbit, 56, of Carteret. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Nesbit was subsequently charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said he had warrants out of Newark in the amounts of $450 and $5,000.
• On July 24 at 4:54 p.m., Patrolman John Lightbody responded to a business on Route 9 for a fraud report. Store employees reported that two black men between 18 and 25 years of age paid for merchandise with a fraudulent $100 bill. The men left the area on foot.
