A fire that caused heavy fire, smoke and water damage to a house at 369 Riverside Drive drew 75 firefighters from nearly a dozen fire companies to put it out early Wednesday morning, according to the Princeton Police Department.
The fire, which apparently began in the garage, was reported at 1:45 a.m. The homeowners’ dog awakened them to the fire. The four occupants and two dogs escaped safely, police said. There were no injuries.
A motorcycle and a car parked in the garage were destroyed in the fire, police said. Three more vehicles parked outside the garage were also destroyed in the fire.
The house was engulfed in flames when the first police officers arrived. Firefighters were quickly able to put out the fire, which caused extensive damage to the right side of the house near the garage. The left side of the house also suffered fire, smoke and water damage, police said.
The Princeton Fire Department responded, along with fire trucks from the Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2, the Rocky Hill Fire Department, the Lawrence Road Fire Co., and the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.
The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad and the Plainsboro Rescue Squad also responded.
Although the investigation is in its early stage, it appears that the fire began in the garage. The Princeton Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire, whose cause is not known at this time, police said.
