Catholic Charities first achieved accreditation in January 1998; this year marks the 18th straight year of accreditation for Catholic Charities in all services surveyed under the Commission’s’ Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Behavioral Health Care, according to a statement prepared by Catholic Charities.

“The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval is an internationally recognized symbol of quality for accreditation and we are very proud of our excellent service delivery and continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards,” said Marianne Majewski, executive director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen.   “Accreditation is voluntary and serves to illustrate our staff and administration’s willingness to go above and beyond in serving the most vulnerable among us, while ensuring the highest standards of quality care and service.”

The standards address important functions relating to the care of individuals served and the management of behavior health care organizations, according to the statement.

Catholic Charities’ accreditation was awarded after undergoing a demanding onsite survey completed on June 10. During the review, compliance with behavioral health care standards related to several areas, including care, treatment and services; environment of care; leadership; and screening procedures for the early detection of imminent harm was evaluated, according to the statement. Onsite observations and interviews also were conducted.

Last year, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen served 53,000 people through more than 100 programs in the Diocesan counties of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren.
