HILLSBOROUGH: Girl Scout organizes autism awareness events

Elementary school children on the autism spectrum and their parents are invited to two programs on upcoming Saturdays at the Hillsborough Library, 379 South Branch Road.
On Saturday, Aug. 13, kids can move between therapeutic art stations where children can interact with peers and express their individualism. Activities will include PlayDoh, puzzles and bubbles — all free of cost.
The program will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for grades K-2 and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for grades 3-4. Each session is 45 minutes long.
The session will be followed the next week (Saturday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m.) by an information session based on conclusions from “Sensory Friendly Art Time” programs.
Girl Scout Anushka Khanna is organizing the autism awareness events as part of her work to achieving her Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.
Anushka will share ideas on how to spread awareness about autism in the community will be discussed and how to improve the art stations for future sessions.
Parents and caregivers and ages 12 and older are invited.
Anushka will answer questions emailed to her at anushka.khanna@gmail.com.
