New police pickups are heavy-duty cruisers

Better slow down the next time you see a black pickup truck on the highway. That’s because it could be the police.

Ford recently announced it would begin selling its full-size F-150 pickups in both extended SuperCab and four-door SuperCrew configurations with a new Special Service Vehicle package. All black with a monochromatic grille, bumpers and side mirrors, the heroic hauler can be fitted with either the standard model’s 3.5-liter Ecoboost turbocharged V6 or the 5.0-liter V8, in rear- and four-wheel-drive XL versions.

The cop truck is equipped to handle the dirty work, with easy-care vinyl flooring, and a stain-proof vinyl rear bench seat. The center console also has been removed to make room for installing communication and other crime-fighting gear, and the truck is equipped with a 240-volt heavy-duty alternator, which is said to help facilitate extended idle times. A large open cargo bed should be ideal for transporting confiscated stolen goods, contraband and the like.
