South Brunswick turns out en masse for National Night Out

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — More than 6,000 residents attended this year’s National Night Out (NNO) celebration to bring the police and community together.

On Aug. 2, staff and volunteers served approximately 2,200 hot dogs, 1,500 bottles of water, 1,000 ice pops and 2,000 bags of popcorn and chips, according to a statement prepared by the South Brunswick Police Department (SBPD). Attendees enjoyed music and dance by Dance Storm performers, and were provided with entertainment, engaging displays, rides and giveaways.

This year’s NNO also showcased resources from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Agents gave tours of their Mobile Command Center and surveillance vehicles and demonstrated “Throw Robots,” which are remote controlled devices used for surveillance in dangerous situations.  South Brunswick was the only NNO in the state to provide this experience.

“FBI Newark is honored to be part of the NNO in South Brunswick Township. Events like these illustrate how strong our communities are, build lasting partnerships between law enforcement and the communities and exemplify that we achieve greater success when we work together,” said Timothy Gallagher, special agent in charge of the Newark FBI Field Office.

South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka praised the positive partnership between the SBPD and the community.

“This year was the highest turnout we have ever had for NNO. During these difficult and trying times throughout our country, the record attendance that we saw is a great example of the unique bond the SBPD and the residents of the township share. Countless times tonight, residents from the community approached officers and told them how grateful they are for their service. We are proud to serve and protect the residents of South Brunswick, and they have truly shown their appreciation and support.”

In addition, Hayducka specifically recognized DCN Automotive Group, High Grade Beverage, Pierre’s Restaurant, Bunzl, Costco, Target, Wakefern and Coca-Cola for their contributions to the event.
