MILLSTONE – The Township Committee has recognized nine Millstone Township youngsters who earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award for helping individuals who are less fortunate.
Members of Troop 47 – Ella Muha, Angelina Kennedy, Amanda Bajcic, Ella Aquavia, Kyleigh Allen, Angelina Livak, Ryann Keefe, Alexandra Sullivan and Alexis Milo – earned the Bronze Award after they coordinated a donation event to benefit the Allentown pantry.
The Girl Scouts, who attend fifth grade at the Millstone Township Elementary School, were recognized for their accomplishment by the members of the governing body on Aug. 3.
Deputy Mayor Michael Kuczinski presented each young lady with a certificate of recognition.
“Your contribution benefited the community and the Allentown pantry,” Kuczinski said.
According to Scout Leader Aneta Kennedy, each Girl Scout spent at least 20 hours brainstorming, planning, organizing, executing and completing the many tasks required to achieve the Bronze Award.
Information provided by Troop 47 states that the girls toured the Allentown pantry, discussed what the pantry’s needs were, coordinated an event to spread awareness of the pantry, created a list of necessary donations, held a donation event at the Millstone Township Community Center and brought the donated items to the Allentown pantry.
Planning for the community service project began in November 2015 and continued through June 18 when the items were brought to the pantry.
“We wanted to do something to help the community, so we thought of helping people and decided to have a food pantry for them,” Kyleigh said. “We donated hats, we donated shampoo and conditioner, we donated food and other things people would need.”
Alexis said the project was special to her and her fellow scouts because they were able to help people who are not as fortunate as they are.
“We got to go to the food bank and we saw (the people there) didn’t have as much as we did, so that’s what inspired us to collect all of the food and other items for them,” Alexis said.
“At a young age, all of you girls are doing something fantastic,” Committeeman Fiore Masci said. “Your community service is outstanding and everybody here on this dais is certainly appreciative of that.”
