Monroe police offer tips for keeping homes safe

MONROE – The Monroe Township Police Department is currently investigating several residential burglaries that have occurred throughout the township.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 732-521-0222.

Residents are urged to do the following:

1. Make sure your residence is properly secured. Lock doors and windows. Activate your alarm system.

2. Remove all valuables kept in your vehicles out of sight. Make sure you lock your vehicles, even if parked in the driveway.

3. If you plan on being away for several hours, leave a light(s) and/or television on. Activate your alarm system.

4. If you are going away on vacation, contact the Post Office to request your mail be held. Designate a family member or friend you trust to check on your residence.

5. If you have a safe, make sure to properly secure it.

6. Photograph jewelry and other items that are of value and keep photographs in a safe place. This helps with the reporting and identification of valuables.

7. Try not to keep large sums of cash/foreign currency in the home. If you must do so, keep in a secure place.

8. If you see anyone or anything suspicious, do not hesitate to call the police.
