Genealogist to discuss ‘Digging for Roots in the Garden State’

EATONTOWN — The Monmouth County Genealogy Society will hold its general meeting at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Community Center, 72 Broad St., Eatontown. The speaker will be Michelle Chubenko, who will present “Digging for Roots in the Garden State.”

Chubenko is a professional genealogist whose company, Jersey Roots Genealogy, performs research utilizing statewide sources at the New Jersey State Archives and other local repositories throughout the state. She will discuss the top 10 websites for researching Jersey roots and explain how to access historical material spanning three centuries, discovering material for the seeker of Colonial information and digging for more recent documentation.

Chubenko has more than 24 years of experience in researching families in New Jersey and other states. Her projects include urban and immigrant research in 19th- and 20th-century New Jersey. She was a researcher on TLC’s “Who Do You Think You Are” (season one) and appeared in the Brooke Shields episode, which aired in April 2010.
