Jewish museum to hold lecture, performance

On Sept. 11, the Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will hold a two-part program presented by David Brahinsky. Admission is $18 for museum members and $20 for non-members.

At 1 p.m., Brahinsky will present a lecture about “Hannah Arendt’s Philosophy of Totalitarianism and the Threat of ISIS.” Arendt, a 20th century Jewish philosopher, developed a profound understanding of the Nazi and Stalinist regimes, which she called “totalitarianism,” according to a press release.

Brahinsky’s talk will explore Arendt’s life and work, and draw parallels between Arendt’s concept of totalitarianism and the fascism of groups such as ISIS, according to the press release.

At 2:30 p.m., the Roosevelt String Band featuring Brahinsky and Friends will perform a one-hour set of songs, “Against Fascism: Songs that Promote Democracy, Toleration and Peace.”

Brahinsky is a professor of philosophy and comparative religion at Bucks County Community College, as well as a singer, songwriter, storyteller and music teacher.

To make a reservation, call 732-252-6990 or visit www.jhmomc.org. The museum is in the Mount’s Corner shopping center, 310 Mount’s Corner Drive, Freehold Township, on the second floor of the historic Levi Solomon barn.
