MILLSTONE – The Millstone Township K-8 School District PTO/PTSA will hold its second annual Millstone Township Color-A-Thon on Oct. 8 at the Millstone Township Middle School, 5 Dawson Ct.
Participants can walk, run or dance through a new and improved race route, according to a press release. Participants should be prepared to get color-blasted with eco-friendly powdered dye along the way.
“This year is expected to be bigger and better,” said event co-chair Christina Baldino. “Our committee is working hard to make this event even more fun for the whole family with even more clouds of color!”
Participants will line up behind a giant inflatable archway at the starting point and then race through a new course mapped out by Joseph Muni, the middle school athletic director.
“Part of the terrain is the middle school cross country course and part of it is a very scenic route through the woods,” Muni said. “The course proves to be a lot of fun during the cross country season and promises to be just as exciting for the upcoming Millstone Township Color-A-Thon.”
“It’s such a great family event that also promotes exercise,” said event co-chair Kristin Schloss. “My two boys think it’s awesome to be covered in color; they don’t even realize they are doing something healthy, too!”
There will be a pre-race fitness warm-up and Vesuvio’s food truck will be selling coffee, breakfast sandwiches and lunch items, according to the press release.
After the race, participants will jam out to music at the After Blast Party that will include a countdown to when everyone rips open their color packets to share a blast of color with family, friends, classmates, teachers and administrators. DJ David Paul from the Harlem Wizards will lead off the festivities.
Last year the event drew a crowd of more than 300 people and raised more than $15,000, according to the press release.
“This was such a fun and successful school and community event,” said PTO Co-President Juli Hilbert. “This was one of our highest earning fundraisers for our schools and we hope to draw an even bigger crowd and earn even more money for our school kids.”
Students will receive a pledge packet when school starts and have the chance to earn prizes to use on race day. The online registration portal is open at http://shop.schoolathon.org/184113; enter the school identification number 120359 to create a donation website. The early entry fee is $30.
“This is not only a great opportunity to support the children of Millstone Township, but it’s also a great opportunity to advertise your business,” said event co-chair Kristen Saker.
