Dr. Arthur “Asher” Isaac Namenson

Dr. Arthur “Asher” Isaac Namenson, 79, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016.
Born in New York City, he was a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, Cooper Union receiving the degree of B.E.E., and Columbia University, where he earned a PhD in Physics.
Dr. Namenson worked at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC from 1966-1997 where he authored articles, handbooks and guidelines related to Cosmic Ray Physics. He developed computer codes and mathematical methods for extracting data relating to missiles. During his time with the Naval Research Laboratory he spent a year in Grenoble, France doing experiments on thermal neutron capture gamma rays at Institut Laue-Langevin.
Dr. Namenson was a prolific artist, known for his pen and ink drawings and witty political caricatures. His hobbies included playing the piano and story writing. Asher was fluent in French and Hebrew and had an ear for learning new languages. He will be remembered for his love of wine, whiskey, food and friends, his humble demeanor and his “mad-scientist” appearance. He was a devoted member of Kesher Israel, in Washington, DC.
Dr. Namenson is survived by a brother, Tobias (Ardith) Namenson, a niece, Leah (Shawn) Neufeld, a nephew, Chanoch Namenson Ne’eman, and two great-nephews, Adam and Mason Neufeld.
Funeral services and burial will be 11AM Monday, August 29 at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Glendale, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Leah and Shawn Neufeld, in Skillman, NJ.
