Arts council announces events in Freehold Borough

FREEHOLD – Two jazz acts will be coming to Freehold Borough in October.

On Oct. 7 at 8 p.m., vocalist and trombonist Natalie Cressman and guitarist Mike Bono will perform at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 33 Throckmorton St., to promote the release of their album “Etchings in Amber.”

On Oct. 14 at 8:30 p.m., jazz ensemble Rhythm Future Quartet will perform at St. Peter’s Church.

Both events are sponsored by the Freehold Borough Arts Council (FBAC). Tickets may be purchased from the FBAC box office in the Freehold Art Gallery, 7A W. Main St., and may also be purchased by emailing info@freeholdborougharts.org or by calling 908-614-6195. Admission for each event is $25.

According to the FBAC, Cressman has toured with Trey Anastasio of the band Phish and has performed with jazz musicians Nicholas Payton, Wycliffe Gordon and Peter Apfelbaum. She has released two albums, “Unfolding” and “Turn the Sea.”

Bono has performed at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall Theater, Birdland, The Blue Note, The Bar Next Door, and Joe’s Pub in New York City, and has toured internationally in Europe and Africa, according to information provided by the FBAC. Among the artists with whom he has performed are Erykah Badu, Chris Cheek, Andra Day, Dayna Stephens, Julian Lage, Dick Oatts, Aloe Blacc, Leon Bridges and Rich Perry.

Rhythm Future Quartet is comprised of violinist Jason Anick, guitarist Olli Soikkeli, guitarist Max O’Rourke and bassist Greg Loughman. According to the FBAC, the group is influenced by the sound of the jazz organization Hot Club de France and perform arrangements of Gypsy jazz standards and original compositions that draw upon international rhythms and musical idioms. They released their album “Travels” in February.
