Two Fair Haven rockers will roll into Washington, D.C., in an effort to improve reading for children.
The Bridge of Books Foundation, which was founded in 2003, has distributed over 650,000 books to children across the state. The Holmdel-based nonprofit organization has joined forces with the LAW ROCKS concert tour to raise awareness and funds that will provide an ongoing source of books to underprivileged and at-risk children throughout New Jersey in order to support literacy skills and to encourage a love of reading.
Kathryne and Richard Singleton of Fair Haven, members of the classic rock cover band, Seven Seas, will participate in the second annual LAW ROCKS Battle of the Bands in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 22, as part of the International Bar Association’s annual conference. They will be playing at the famed 9:30 Club to benefit Bridge of Books Foundation, competing against 13 other bands of lawyers who rock.
“As a Bridge of Books Foundation volunteer and board member, I’m always looking for new opportunities to spread the word about the great work our organization does for the children of New Jersey. Little did I know that I’d be presented with a surprising way to help,” said Kathryne Singleton, who is the lead singer of Seven Seas. The seven-member band includes maritime attorneys from the U.S., Singapore, Chile and the U.K. “We’re ready to win the night and raise serious funds for the Bridge of Books Foundation.”
LAW ROCKS, which was founded in 2009, promotes music education and literacy for underprivileged youth and raises funds for local nonprofit organizations by combining the power of music and the generosity of the global legal community. This year’s LAW ROCKS tour features concerts in Los Angeles, Cyprus, London, Singapore, Chicago, Sydney, Istanbul, New York and Washington, D.C.
“Most people probably won’t be able to make it to D.C. to see the concert, but there’s a way to get involved,” said Abigail Daly, Bridge of Books Foundation founder and executive director.
A Crowdrise site has been set up for each of the bands, which allows fans to support all the nonprofits benefiting from the Washington, D.C. event.
