Middlesex County, Sansone pilot employment program for veteran inmates

Middlesex County is piloting a Veteran Inmate Employment Program that provides veterans and their immediate families opportunities to engage in full-time, meaningful employment.

To qualify for the program —which is sponsored and administrated by Sansone Auto Mall in Avenel — inmates must be military veterans or the immediate family of a veteran and be scheduled for release within six months of applying for the program.

“After everything our veterans have sacrificed for our freedom, every one of them deserves a second chance. On behalf of the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, we wish to applaud and support this program,” Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios said.

Middlesex County’s corrections facility is the first county facility to implement this program in the state. The county is working closely with the program’s staff to develop a model for the program that would be offered to correctional institutions throughout New Jersey.

“Middlesex County was selected to host our first veteran inmate interaction session because of Freeholder Director Rios and the Board of Chosen Freeholder’s strong support for our veterans,” said Richard Liebler, Sansone Veterans administrator. “The program presented in Middlesex County will be the prototype for presentations to other county correction facilities as well as the State of New Jersey Department of Corrections.”
