Grant to provide assistance in citizenship process

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-Monmouth, Middlesex) announced that Edison’s Literacy New Jersey, Inc. was awarded a U.S. Citizens and Immigration Services (USCIS) FY16 Citizenship and Integration Grant for $100,000 to help permanent residents prepare for and apply for U.S. citizenship.

Literacy New Jersey will use the award to expand the range of citizenship preparation services available to permanent residents, help these immigrants become citizens of the United States, and foster their integration into American society.

“For many of those seeking citizenship, the application process can be burdensome,” said Pallone. “Often issues of time, money and language barriers can stand in the way and prevent individuals who are already contributing so much to our society the opportunity to become citizens. USCIS’ grant to Literacy New Jersey will help immigrants move one step closer to the American Dream.”

Through the grant program, 46 organizations located in 21 states will receive funds to assist in the citizenship process. Congressman Pallone’s offices can also provide assistance.
