NORTH BRUNSWICK — For the fourth year in a row, members of the community will try to hit a home run for a charitable cause.
Officers of the North Brunswick Police Department will be challenged by staff members from North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) in a benefit softball game, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Veterans Park, Roosevelt Avenue, North Brunswick. The rain date is Oct. 19.
NBTHS Principal Pete Clark said the tradition follows in the footsteps of past games, which have raised money for domestic violence victims, a member of the police department who had cancer and the township volunteer fire companies. This year, funds will go toward the Dallas Police Department, which suffered the loss of five officers during an ambush in July.
“[W]e are proud to have such a great relationship with the Board of Education and enjoy playing in this annual charity game. It is always a worthy cause and a great time for everyone that participates,” said Police Capt. Brian Hoiberg.
“North Brunswick officers have traveled to many of the recent funerals around the nation for our fallen police officers. While we were in Dallas there to support them, we were welcomed and received such hospitality that it was an easy decision to give something back. Principal Clark and I spoke early on and agreed that this was the right cause for this year’s game. We are proud to support our brothers and sisters from Dallas in any way we can,” he said.
