Police call on motorists to put safety first

ENGLISHTOWN – Oct. 10 has been designated as “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day” in Englishtown.

In a press release, Lt. Peter S. Cooke Jr., Officer in Charge of the Englishtown Police Department, said “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day” was established 12  years ago to focus attention on reducing the 35,092 traffic fatalities that occurred in the United States in 2015.

In New Jersey, 562 individuals lost their lives on the state’s roads in 2015, according to the press release.

Cooke said that as part of a continuing effort in moving toward zero fatalities, motorists, pedestrians, motorcyclists and bicyclists are asked to take extra care on Oct. 10 to prevent traffic crashes and to make the day a fatality-free day across New Jersey.

On Oct. 10, the police department will be deploying extra officers to stop and ticket motorists who are driving aggressively and/or carelessly.
