Center Players will present its first play reading of its 2016-17 season with a production of “Charlotte’s Web,” E.B. White’s classic tale of Wilbur, a little pig who becomes famous with the help of his wise friend Charlotte, a spider, and their chatty animal neighbors.

The staged reading will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Oakley farm, corner of Oakley Drive and Wemrock Road, Freehold Township. Leading the cast as Charlotte is Freehold Township Mayor Barbara McMorrow, according to a press release.

The performance is free and sponsored in part by the Monmouth County Historical Society. Attendees should bring chairs or blankets to sit on during the reading. The rain date is Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.

“We are pleased to present this timeless, heartwarming story of friendship and love in such a beautiful, historic setting,” Center Players Artistic Director Bernice Garfield Szita said. “And we are thrilled that Barbara McMorrow will lend her talents to this reading and hope she partners with us on future projects.”
