Fatal crash claims life of 96-year-old

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 96-year-old.

The crash occurred on Cranbury-South River Road (Route 535) at the intersection of Route 32 at 1:23 p.m. on Sept. 27, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.

A Honda Accord was reportedly making a left turn from Route 535 north onto Route 32 west while a BMW sedan was headed south on Route 535. The BMW reportedly made contact with the passenger side of the Accord as both vehicles entered the intersection, police said.

The passenger in the Accord, a 96-year-old male from Monroe, suffered fatal injuries from the crash, police said. The driver of the Accord was the only other occupant and was not injured.  The driver and sole occupant of the BMW sedan, a 55 year-old male from Philadelphia, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The names were not released as of press time.

The Monmouth Junction Fire Department, first aid squads from Monmouth Junction and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick assisted at the scene.

Route 535 at the intersection of Route 32 was closed for four hours as police investigated the crash.

The crash is currently under investigation by Officer Frank Mongalieri of the South Brunswick Police Traffic Bureau and Detective Donald Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
