NORTH BRUNSWICK – Two students at North Brunswick Township High School have achieved notable accomplishments in the field of music.

Freshman Sidharth Bejugama has been accepted as a percussionist in the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra. He is playing in an ensemble made up of more than 80 high school students from all over New Jersey, according to information provided by Jamie Egan, supervisor of music for the North Brunswick School District. Sidharth will be performing at Alexander Hall at Princeton University this spring.

Ian Young, a senior trombone player, has been accepted to the New York Youth Symphony, a group that encompasses more than 5,000 students ages 12-22. He will be playing principal trombone on major works including Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade,” and works by Beethoven, Ravel, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, according to Egan.

Ian is a regular at many events and performance opportunities at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he has repeatedly received scholarships for summer study.

“Both of these students are prime examples of outstanding music students who not only push themselves in the classroom, but extra music activities as well,” Egan said in the statement.
