Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society has received a $10,000 grant from the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, a nonprofit organization lead by singer-songwriter Rob Thomas and his wife Marisol.

“The Sidewalk Angels Foundation has surprised, humbled and inspired us once again,” said Christie Artlotta, executive director of Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society. “This grant allows us to continue our mission to provide a safe and peaceful haven for homeless, abandoned or abused animals.”

The mission of the Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society is to provide a safe and peaceful haven for homeless, abandoned or abused animals. Members try to decrease the number of cats and dogs being destroyed in kill shelters through the work of foster, spay/neuter, trap-neuter-return and education programs. The group is based out of East Brunswick and operates out of PetSmart in North Brunswick.

Karma Cat + Zen Dog Society will use the grant money from the Matchbox 20 band member for veterinary bills and high quality pet food for the 22 kittens and 23 adult cats it currently suppors. Funds will also be allocated to a large upcoming Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) project slated to kick off this fall.

Several other organizations also received grants from the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, all of which were funded by Rob Thomas charity concerts this past year.
