Wall Stadium champions to be crowned Oct. 8

Persistent light rain and drizzle and a forecast for more during the day and evening forced Wall Stadium Speedway officials to postpone the Oct. 1 “Champions Night” events one week until Oct. 8.

Grandstand seating will open at 5 p.m. Oct. 8, with qualifying beginning at 5:45 p.m. and main event action to follow.

In the Downs Ford Modified ranks, Jackson’s Steven Reed is at the top of the point rankings as he seeks his second straight crown. Still, Reed’s brother-in-law, 10-time track champion Chas Okerson of Freehold, Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Toms River’s Derek Hopkinson and Brick’s Shawna Ingraham are within striking distance. The Modifieds will compete in a double-point 40-lapper.

Ricky Collins of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, whose Sept. 24 win was upheld after technical inspection, former champ Kevin Davison of Howell, Brick’s Dom Fattaruso and Jackson’s Blake Barney are at the top of the Snap-on Sportsman chase going into the double-point 30-lapper. Defending champ Joe Mongeau of Brick and Scott Riggleman of Manchester lead the O’Shea Auto Repair Factory Stock points going into the night’s double-point 25-lap headliner.

The Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars find Louie Keraitis of Toms River and Malcolm Campbell of Eatontown locked in a battle for the title with one double-point 25-lap race remaining. In the Surf Side Collision 4-Cylinder Stocks, Todd Pilla of Beachwood, Howell’s Brian Osborn and Brick’s Jason Lane are the top point drivers going into the double-point 25-lap point finale.

Mike Tillett of Beachwood and former champs Brian Doyle of Ronkonkoma, New York, Howie Conk of Jackson and Bill Vanderveen lead the Elite Maintenance Limited Late Model points with just one regular-season double-point 25-lapper remaining.

The Oct. 8 schedule will see the competitor pit area open at 1 p.m. Regular practice will start at 3:30 p.m., while spectator seating will open at 5 p.m. Qualifying starts at 5:45 p.m. with main events to follow.

Once the season has concluded, the “Spooky Spectacular” is set for Oct. 15, and the annual “Turkey Derby” will be presented on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.
