Andrews, Griswold to greet fans at library headquarters

Outstanding athletes who have competed on the international stage will be honored at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Symmes Drive, Manalapan, on Oct 23 during a Monmouth County Salute to the Olympians beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Manalapan High School graduate Robby Andrews and Freehold Township High School graduate Robert Griswold will be saluted by local and county officials, according to a press release.

Andrews and Griswold will be present to speak with visitors and sign autographs.

Andrews competed in the 1,500-meter run in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Griswold competed in swimming at the 2016 Paralympics, also in Rio de Janeiro, and won a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke.

For the younger set, there will be demonstrations of gymnastics and information offered by professionals from the Monmouth Gymnastics Academy of Morganville, where Olympics silver medalist Laurie Hernandez trains. Hernandez, of Old Bridge, was part of the U.S. gold medal team.

Demonstrations and interactions with the gymnastics team will take place in the children’s library beginning at 1:30 p.m., according to the press release.

The afternoon will include a concert by Tim McLoone at 2 p.m. The concert and program are free and open to the public. No advance reservations are necessary. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Doors for the events will open at 12:30 p.m.
