MARLBORO – The Marlboro Recreation Community Center, Wyncrest Road, will host pumpkin painting, “Trunk or Treat” and a Halloween parade on Oct. 30.

Pumpkin painting will take place at 2 p.m. The cost is $10 per pumpkin for Marlboro residents and $15 per pumpkin for non-residents. Online preregistration is required at http://register.communitypass.net/marlboro

The fourth annual “Trunk or Treat” will take place from 3-5 p.m. During “Trunk or Treat,” youngsters will go from car to car in the recreation center parking lot and receive a treat from the trunk of each vehicle.

A flier promoting the event states that “kids can ‘trunk or treat’ for candy and prizes. Bring your car with treats or walk with children from trunk to trunk and get treats in a complementary candy bag. Prizes awarded for best decorated cars.”

Vehicles participating in the event must arrive at the recreation center’s rear parking lot between 2-2:45 p.m. Participating vehicles must remain in their spot until the end of the Halloween parade.

Officials are asking adults not to give out unwrapped candy or homemade treats. Vendors who attend may set up a table or decorate the trunk of a vehicle.

“Trunk or Treat” was started in 2012 by Mayor Jonathan Hornik after superstorm Sandy struck New Jersey and caused the postponement of Halloween events. It was initially held in early November after the storm. Since then, officials said, it has became a popular tradition in the township.

Patrons are asked to register to participate in the parade during “Trunk or Treat.” The parade will begin at 5 p.m. behind the recreation center and participants will walk two laps around the building. Prizes will be awarded for costumes in several categories, including scariest, funniest, best group/family and most original.

All vehicles at the recreation center must remain parked during the parade and no other cars will be permitted access to the parking lots until the parade has concluded.

The day is sponsored by Century 21 Mack Morris-Iris Lurie Realtor, Mikey’s Ice Cream, Party Perfect, Arlene Gorskie, Central Jersey Basketball, Eckel Farms, Posh Car Wash, iPlay America, Artisan Studio and Noble Productions. The sponsors have donated prizes such as gift certificates and toys.

There will be door prizes, a DJ and inflatable rides. For more information, call 732-617-0100 or email recreation@marlboro-nj.gov
