New Egypt Middle School adds assistant coaches

New Egypt Middle School, in an effort to cultivate young athletes for the high school level, has added assistant coaches for its girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer, field hockey and co-ed teams.

“This helps us run more drills in practice,” said field hockey coach Allison MacFarland, who has Nina Aquaviva as assistant coach. “She’s communicating with girls on the sidelines [during games].”

A tie with Stone Bridge Middle School was the highlight of the early season, but MacFarland feels the players are developing a good sense of the game with her and Aquaviva assisting.

Seventh-grade players Michaela Weber at forward, Grace Kuey at left wing, Megan Normile moving from center midfield to center forward and versatile player Katie Angellina make up the nucleus of the team.

New Egypt’s girls’ soccer coach Michele Palmieri also considers Kirsten De La Rosa a boost to the team as an assistant coach in building the program and future high school standouts. They’re led by eighth-grader Kayla Guleta at center midfield, seventh-graders Emily Byrnes and Jess Bray playing in the midfield or forward and sixth-grader Meg Reuter at midfield.
