Walk to raise funds for autism education program at university

The Autism MVP Foundation is sponsoring the second annual Autism MVP Walk at 11 a.m. on Nov. 6 at Thompson Park, 805 Newman Springs Rd., Lincroft, rain or shine. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

All proceeds from the walk will support professionals in the field of autism education, including the new pilot program with Monmouth University. The Autism MVP Foundation has partnered with the Monmouth University School of Education to fund a model teacher and paraprofessional training program to educate and engage children on the autism spectrum.

New Jersey has the highest autism rate in the country, with 1 in 41 children diagnosed per year, according to the CDC. This New Jersey rate marks an increase of 12 percent from the previous 1 in 45 statistic released two years ago.

The day will feature family fun with activities for kids, complimentary hot chocolate, coffee, donuts and a no-pressure 5K walk along a picturesque, paved trail.

Participants may purchase tickets in advance at www.autismmvp.org/news-and-events.html or on site on day of event. The cost is $25 per adult and $10 for children 12 and under. For more information, visit www.autismmvp.org.
