Over 50 Holmdel High School students were recently inducted into the school’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a program of the National Association for Music Education. Its focus is on creating future leaders and advocates for music education.
According to the Tri-M, the society’s purposes are to foster greater interest in band, orchestra and choral performances and to provide more opportunities for personal musical expression.
Students are selected for membership in the honor society on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, leadership, and service to their school and community. The organization’s high standards serve to challenge students to greater effort and achievement and to encourage them in the pursuit of excellence.
Tri-M is the only national honor society for student musicians in grades 6-12. There are more than 1,800 chapters across all 50 states, involving more than 75,000 students. Each year, Tri-M students contribute more than 750,000 service hours to their schools and local communities nationally, and raise nearly $1 million for causes they care about.
Holmdel High School boasts an extensive music program with opportunities for students to perform in several choral and instrumental ensembles (including jazz and handbell ensembles) as well as opportunities for students to pursue studies in contemporary music, music theory and music technology. The level of student involvement in music and other arts classes recently contributed to the high school’s No. 7 ranking by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
