Military Child of the Year nominees sought

Operation Homefront is now accepting Military Child of the Year nominations through Dec. 5.  Show military children appreciation for serving alongside their family by nominating them for the 2017 Military Child of the Year award.

Six outstanding young people age 8-18, who represent a branch of the armed forces, will be recognized for their scholarship, volunteerism, leadership, extracurricular involvement and other criteria while facing the challenges of military family life.

Awardees will receive $10,000 each, a laptop computer and other donated gifts and will be flown with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C., for a special gala where senior leaders of each branch of service will present the awards.

There will also be a seventh award for a young person age 13-18. This award is the Military Child of the Year Award for Innovation presented by Booz Allen Hamilton. With a new invention, improvement to existing technology, creation of a new nonprofit or community service group or the expansion of an existing membership organization, the winner of this award will show the power of innovative thinking. The Military Child of the Year Award for Innovation recipient will receive a $5,000 cash award, benefit from mentorship by Booz Allen Hamilton employees and be flown to Washington, D.C., along with a parent or guardian, to be recognized at the gala. The deadline to nominate a child for this award is also Dec. 5.
