The South River Cultural Arts and Heritage Commission will sponsor its Washington Monumental Cemetery Walking Tour beginning at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 at the cemetery, 45 Hillside Ave., South River. Participants should meet at the central monument in the old section of the cemetery.
Walkers will learn about the history of South River through stories of the past that shaped the character of the community. The origin of street names will be explained by visits to graves of prominent residents dating back to the 1800s.
Tour leader will be Brian Armstrong, president, South River Historical and Preservation Society.
