Olympians, athletes to be honored at Monmouth County Library

MANALAPAN — The Monmouth County Library Headquarters will hold a “Salute to Olympians” to honor Monmouth County-connected athletes at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at 125 Symmes Drive in Manalapan.

The event will feature Olympic bronze medalist Monica Aksamit of Matawan and athletes Robby Andrews and bronze medalist Robert Griswold

Tim McLoone and The Shirleys with the Atlantic Coast Band will perform at 2 p.m. in the lower level of the library. The concert is a tribute to the Four Kings: Carole King, B.B. King, Ben E. King, and Elvis. The concert and program are free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For the younger set, there will also be demonstrations and information on gymnastics presented by the Monmouth Gymnastics Academy of Morganville. This activity will take place in the children’s library beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Andrews, the former Manalapan High School All-State runner and a University of Virginia graduate and former NCAA champion and track and field star known for his trademark “Big Kick”, and Griswold, a recent graduate of Freehold Township High School and world record holder in the 200-meter backstroke, will join Aksamit who is currently coaching fencing at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel in speaking with visitors and signing autographs.
