Yannick Gingras was elected to the Board of Directors of the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey (SBOANJ).

Of the 758 members, 347 ballots were returned and counted Oct. 14 by the accounting firm Drucker, Math & Whitman certified public accountants in North Brunswick.

In one of the two contested categories — driver/trainer — Gingras received the most votes over incumbent Jacqueline Ingrassia and the other challenger, Vincent Ginsburg.

In the second contested category, owners Anthony Perretti and Anthony Romano were both re-elected to another term. The two incumbents were on the ballot with challenger Joe Jannuzzelli.

In the uncontested breeders category Mike Klau and Mark Mullen were re-elected.

This was Gingras’ first bid for a seat on the SBOANJ Board of Directors.

“I am happy to have been elected. I am looking forward to start working with those already in place on ways to get people in the stands and improve racing in New Jersey” said Gingras, who is currently top driver by earnings in North America, in a press release.

Monmouth University freshman Matt Mosquera of Middletown (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) was named Big South Special Teams Player of the Week Oct. 10.

Against Howard University Oct. 8, Mosquera, a true freshman, was unexpectedly pressed into action after a roughing the punter penalty rendered Monmouth punter/kicker Matt White unable to return to the game early in the second quarter. Mosquera answered the call, going a perfect 6-of-6 on extra points and taking over punting duties for the Hawks.

Mosquera’s first punt was placed on the Howard 10-yard line, while his second and final punt was fair caught on the Howard 21-yard line, rendering dangerous return man Guy Lomonier useless on the play. Mosquera, a Middletown High School South graduate, had not seen action this season prior to his first extra point attempt in the second quarter.

Mosquera is the third Hawk this season to win Big South Special Teams Player of the Week.
