Folk singer to perform in concert Nov. 5 in Lincroft

Music notes

LINCROFT — The Earth Room Concerts music series at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County (UUCMC), 1475 W. Front St., will present Tracy Grammer in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 5.

The music series, named for the stained glass in the sanctuary where concerts are held, brings nationally known folk and singer/songwriter artists to Monmouth County.

A one-time member of Joan Baez’s band,  Grammer has traveled throughout North America, Europe and Japan playing her own songs and those of her favorite writers, while also paying tribute to songwriter Dave Carter, with whom she performed and recorded from 1996 until his sudden death in 2002.

The Lincroft concert will feature a “words+music” section where Grammer offers honest, poignant, often humorous glimpses into the journey with, and without, Carter. The content varies nightly, but has addressed such topics as grief, transgender issues, bad British accents, life on the road, public versus private selves and starting over.

Her most recent release, “Little Blue Egg” (with Dave Carter), was the most-played album on folk radio for 2012. She is writing songs for her first album of original material and is hard at work on a memoir. She lives in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

Concert tickets in advance are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children age 12 and under or $20 for adults and $10 for children at the door. For more information and tickets, visit www.earthroomconcerts.org.

In the spring, Earth Room Concerts will host Matt Nakoa, The Young Novelists and Joe Crookston.
