PLUMSTED – A 5-kilometer run that is open to people of all ages in Plumsted Township will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 3 at New Egypt High School, Evergreen Road.
Money raised through the 5K will be used to fund assemblies and other activities at the Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary School, according to guidance counselor Alyse Kreig.
Kreig said the event is open to students, teachers and residents. There is a $20 advance registration fee (through Nov. 30). Registration on the day of the event will be $30. To register, visit www.solepurposefund.org
The Plumsted Township School District Board of Education recently passed a resolution granting permission for the elementary school to participate in the fundraiser.
The fundraiser will be presented by Sole Purpose Fundraising LLC. The business will organize and run the event from set-up through cleanup. Sole Purpose Fundraising will retain 50 percent of the registration fees, Kreig said.
“We get half of all the funds raised from the event,” Kreig said. “For every $20 raised, we get $10.”
In other business at the school board’s Oct. 19 meeting, the board approved the following classes for the Plumsted community education program: After-School Fine Art, KidzArt, Brick Building 4U, Arts and Crafts, Performing Arts, Wild Jersey: Paper Making, Wild Jersey: Ink from Acorns, Wild Jersey: Lenape Coil Pots, Color Me Mine, Get Up and Dance, Healthy Eating, Floor Hockey and Warrior Sports Clubs.
“Our community education program is open to the public. Community education offers holiday care (when the school district is closed) … These programs and others are open to outside students on a space available basis,” said Lisa Harper, coordinator of the school district’s New Egypt Extended Day childcare program. “It is a great opportunity for students to interact with district staff outside of the academic environment.”
There were more than 300 students registered for community education classes in 2015, according to Harper, who said the classes are paid for through user fees and not taxpayer dollars.
