JACKSON –  The Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, will host the grand opening of its new maker space, Sparks’s Lab, on Nov. 19.

The opening will provide guests with a chance to test drive the new equipment and create innovative items ranging from complicated marble roller coasters and towering structures to cooking and sewing projects, according to a press release from the Ocean County Library.

Programs and demonstrations will be held between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to highlight the capabilities of the maker space.

Sarah Roman will host a Raspberry [Pi] Jam during the grand opening, providing an opportunity to learn about the Raspberry Pi microcomputer in a fun and friendly atmosphere, according to the press release.

“Sparks’s Lab at Jackson is a combination art studio, computer lab and kitchen where the community can create and experiment to make unique items,” said  Carolyn Aversano, teen services librarian. “The launch of Sparks’s Lab brings a new level of maker programming to Jackson.”

The lab will build upon the skills and creativity of residents through trial-and-error experimentation and enable them to collaborate on hands-on projects, according to the press release.

“The maker movement has made a significant impact on school curriculum development and growing local economies through the nurturing of small businesses,” Aversano said.

The grand opening is free, but registration is required for four demonstrations: Pancake Art, 11 a.m.; 3D Design, noon; Simple Sewing Project, 1 p.m.; and Cooking with Jenn Klein, 2 p.m. To register, call 732-928-4400.
