SOUTH RIVER – Patrol units responded to the BP gas station located at 258 Old Bridge Turnpike for a report of multiple victims that had been stabbed around 12:44 a.m. on Oct. 5.
Upon their arrival, officers located three males that had multiple, non-life threatening stab wounds, according to a statement prepared by the South River Police Department.
South River officers, with the assistance of the East Brunswick Police Department, were able to render first aid to the victims, obtain initial witness statements and locate and secure the crime scene at Veterans Park in South River, according to the statement.
The South River Police Department Detective Bureau was able to identify Anthony Amaya, 18, of East Brunswick, as the alleged suspect, according to the statement. Amaya was charged on Oct. 14 with three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and three counts of possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, with bail set at $150,000.
“This is another example of members of this agency working in an unselfish and professional manner and working relentlessly to accomplish a goal,” said South River Police Chief Mark Tinitigan.
