EDISON — An investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office continues into a crash involving a 56-year-old Park Ridge resident whose car collided with a township patrol car and injured a patrolman last month.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 8, according to police.

Police Officer Michael Gallant was on routine patrol driving south on Route 1 when Tarak Sanyal, in a Honda Accord, driving in the northbound lanes, allegedly made an illegal left turn across Route 1 toward Prince Street, police said.

Sanyal’s vehicle collided with the patrol car forcing the patrol car to strike a utility pole, according to police.

The man’s 13-year-old daughter was in the car’s front seat and his wife, Keya Sanyal, was sitting in the back seat, according to police.

Keya Sanyal and the officer were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Sanyal was treated for head injuries after the crash, and Gallant was treated for neck and knee injuries as well as bruises and scrapes.

The officer has since returned to duty, police said.
