Middlesex County College to honor veterans Nov. 10

Middlesex County College will salute military veterans with a special program on Nov. 10 at 2600 Woodbridge Ave., Edison.

The program will include a reception for a statewide veterans art exhibit and Operation Shoebox NJ, an organization in which volunteers pack supplies to be sent to military members overseas. A speech will also be given by George Lisicki, a college trustee and former national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The public is invited to attend.

“The theme is ‘Acknowledge, Appreciate and Contribute,’ and we have a number of terrific events with that in mind,” said Richard Feldman, coordinator of the Veterans Services Center at Middlesex County College. “It is designed to honor the service and sacrifice of our vets and to allow the college community to get to know them.”

The day will begin with a flag raising at the College Center circle at 9:30 a.m., followed by a meet and greet in the West Hall Parkview Room with Lisicki, who will then speak on transitioning from military to civilian life.

Following his speech, volunteers will box up essential supplies that will be sent to service personnel overseas. The effort is organized by Operation Shoebox NJ.

The final event will be a reception for “Veterans Perspective 2016,” an exhibit of artwork by military veterans from all over New Jersey.

“I am very exited about the exhibit,” Feldman said. “It shows the creativity of our state’s veterans.”
