Anne Janine (Chase) Braude

Anne Janine (Chase) Braude, 60, of Dayton, passed away Oct. 28 after a four-year battle with leiomyosarcoma, a rare, aggressive cancer.

A twin born in Northampton, Massachusetts, Braude spent her early years between Massachusetts and New Jersey before her parents settled down in Kendall Park. She met her husband in junior high, began dating in high school and married a few years later. They started a family in 1981 and have lived in Dayton for 31 years.

A graduate of the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, New York, and Mercer County Community College, West Windsor, Braude spent much of her career in education, including more than 12 years as the secretary to the vice principal at Cranbury School in Cranbury.

She also worked more than 10 years at Princeton University as assistant to the chair and manager and undergraduate/graduate program coordinator for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and assistant to the chair/program assistant for the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Program in Creative Writing.

Braude concluded her career as an administrative assistant at the Concordia Active Adult Community clubhouse in Monroe.

During her career at Princeton University, Braude thoroughly enjoyed working with world-renowned authors and poets including Joyce Carol Oates and Paul Muldoon. She loved great food, traveling, learning and spending time with family and friends. Janine will be remembered as a compassionate, patient, honest individual with a knack for helping others make life a little easier—whether through cooking, technology, day-to-day activities or hobbies. In everything she did, she gave her all.

Braude is survived by her husband Richard Braude of Dayton; children Sarah (Braude) and Shawn McGovern of Blackwood, and Rosie (Braude) and Gregory Esposito of Glassboro; father A. Gregory Chase and stepmother Ginny Chase of Whiting; mother-in-law Barbara Braude of Monroe; siblings Audrey (Chase) and Frank Kilbride of Monmouth Junction, Marcie Braude of Monroe, and Larry and Liz Braude of Lumberton; several aunts and uncles and many cousins; one niece and three nephews; and many friends.

She is predeceased by her mother, Anna M. Paulsen Chase.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 20 at Pierre’s of South Brunswick, 582 Georges Road, Monmouth Junction.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Braude’s memory to the Cancer Research Institute, Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care or Saint Peter’s University Hospital – Oncology.
