Incumbent Leslie Septor and newcomer Joseph Surdo were elected to three-year terms on the Plumsted Township School District Board of Education on Nov. 8.

Running unopposed, Surdo received 1,623 votes and Septor received 1,561 votes, according to results posted online by the Ocean County Clerk’s Office. The results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.

Septor said that during the next three years, she will continue to address the financial and educational issues facing the New Egypt Primary School, the Dr. Gerald H. Woehr Elementary School, the New Egypt Middle School and New Egypt High School.

“I will continue to make decisions that are in the best interest of all stakeholders while maintaining fiscal responsibility and increasing academic rigor and opportunities for all students,” Septor said during her campaign.

Surdo said he wanted to be more involved with the community and provide more academic opportunities for Plumsted’s children. He said serving on the board “will give me the chance to make sure our children are presented with as many opportunities as possible when it comes to academics or any extracurricular activity.”

In the race for two three-year seats on the Jackson School District Board of Education, Michael Walsh and incumbent Thomas Colucci were elected.

Walsh received 11,900 votes and Colucci received 9,582 votes to claim the seats, according to results posted online by the Ocean County Clerk’s Office. The results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.

Sharon Dey, a veteran board member who is currently serving as the board’s president, was unsuccessful in her bid for re-election. Dey received 8,842 votes.

The Jackson School District educates almost 9,000 students in 10 schools – six elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools.
