Shaun Golden has been re-elected to serve as Monmouth County sheriff for a third three-year term.
On Nov. 8, Golden, a Republican, defeated Democrat Jeff Cantor by a count of 159,301 to 125,078, according to unofficial results posted by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office. The result is unofficial until it is certified by the county.
“I am honored to have been re-elected to a third term as sheriff and it is my privilege and duty to continue to serve all who live, work or visit this great county, in the safest, most effective and efficient manner for another three years,” Golden said.
“Public safety, homeland security, the fight against drug abuse, among other important initiatives, will remain a top priority, as we move forward into the next three years,” he said.
Golden is a lifelong resident of Monmouth County. He is a former police officer in Colts Neck and Toms River. Golden also worked as a certified paramedic and he was a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician.
Cantor, who will retain his seat on the Marlboro Township Council, said, “I congratulate Shaun Golden on running a great race. I know he will work hard to protect all Monmouth County residents and keep everyone safe.
“We have serious tasks ahead of us with the heroin and opiate epidemic and terrorism. I am confident Shaun Golden will put his all into these tasks. I want to thank all of the people in Monmouth County for coming out to vote and supporting your candidates.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me during the race and those who believed in me. I look forward to continuing to serve the great people of Marlboro as their councilman and thank them for allowing me to have that privilege,” Cantor said.
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office consists of five divisions: law enforcement; communications; corrections; emergency management; and the Monmouth County Police Academy. There are 609 officers and employees in the sheriff’s office, according to a press release from the county.
