METUCHEN — The Democratic candidates overwhelmingly beat their Republican challengers for the two seats on the Borough Council that were available in the election on Nov. 8.
Incumbent Dorothy Rasmussen recorded the most votes with 4,372 and her running mate Linda Koskoski, who will be serving her first term, received 4,187 votes.
The Republican challengers Daniel Lebar and Joseph Furmato III collected 2,418 votes and 2,343 votes, respectively, in their losing bids for their first terms on council.
“I am so grateful to the residents of Metuchen for their support in re-electing me to my third term on the Borough Council,” said Rasmussen. “As many of you know, I am a hands-on public servant. Residents know they can count on me to be responsive to their requests.”
Rasmussen said she will continue to be as approachable as she has always been because that is what the residents of Metuchen deserve.
“Going forward, I intend to support pedestrian safety through educational initiatives, refurbishing our parks and continue the downtown revitalization,” she said.
Koskoski said she would like to thank the residents of Metuchen for putting their faith in her.
“The support from everyone has been overwhelming and I feel humbled as I prepare for my time on the council,” she said. “My focus is going to be on the pieces of the puzzle that contribute to a vibrant downtown including continued support for the Metuchen Downtown Alliance, improving bike/walk safety and finding ways to tie the Middlesex Greenway to our downtown.”
Koskoski said she believes that with the council and Mayor Peter Cammarano, they can accomplish anything.
“I look forward to contributing to the team,” she said.
