While the officers were en route to the location, a dispatcher advised them that the clothes dryer in the residence was on fire.

When the officers arrived at Covered Bridge they responded to the apartment where the fire was burning and evacuated residents of adjoining apartments. Grant used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the dryer fire, according to police.

Firefighters from the Gordons Corner Fire Company arrived and deemed the apartment safe. Fire Marshal Michael Lennox investigated the incident and deemed the fire to have been accidental, police said.
