Matawan to hold annual 5k Turkey Trot on Nov. 26

MATAWAN- Thanksgiving week will once again feature the popular 5k Turkey Trot on the borough’s menu.

The race, which includes a fitness walk, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, and is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Terhune Park.

Runners and walkers are urged  to start registering at 8 a.m.  A free Kiddy Dash will follow, beginning at 10:45 a.m. for any young runners.

Participants will run or walk their way through the officially certified course, starting at Main and Broad streets in Matawan.

Bibs and shirts will be available for pre-registered runners on Friday, Nov.25, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Pick ups will be held at the Matawan Community Center, which is located at 201 Broad St., Matawan.

Runners are walkers are still encouraged to sign up. A $25 registration fee will be accepted up until the day of the race.

Numerous members of the community and surrounding areas are expected to turn out.

The MAX of Old Bridge fitness manager, Alex Bates, will be running this race for a second time.  She has promoted this event to many of her facility’s members to participate.

“The Turkey Trot is an awesome race to get a group together to accomplish a goal during the holidays,” she said.  “Whether this is your first race or 100th one, it is truly a fun morning.”

Awards will be given out to the top three males and females of the day.

The race proceeds will go to benefit Matawan’s parks and recreation programs and events.  Donations are also being accepted for the Matawan food pantry.
