HOWELL – The Howell Library, 318 Old Tavern Road, Howell, will host a performance of “A Christmas Carol: The Radio Show” from 7-8 p.m. Dec. 13.
The performance at the library will be based on the 1940s radio performance of the Charles Dickens classic that starred Lionel Barrymore and Orson Wells and was sponsored by Campbell’s soup.
The free performance at the library will be presented by NINE Theatricals. The actors will be dressed in clothing from the 1930s and 1940s. The performance is sponsored by the Friends of the Howell Library and all are welcome to attend.
Linda Turash will direct the performance and play the role of the Ghost from Christmas past.
“It is a warm, lively show and that can be eerie at times,” Turash said. “We have great sound effects and music. We also sing a few songs and our show features an original Campbell’s soup commercial.”
The cast of “A Christmas Carol: The Radio Show” includes Richard Saylor as Ebenezer Scrooge, John Russo, James Robicheau, Steven Marrus, Arlene Finlay and Fran Raleigh. Janice Saylor will handle the technical aspects of the production.
“It is something different from your standard play,” Turash said. “Some actors use different voices to play different characters. People have a sentimental feeling about the old days. I think the standard show is still more popular, but this is a change. It is also a plus for the actors because they don’t have to memorize their lines.”
